PROYECTO DE ESTRUCTURAS

During my time in the Master’s program at the Polytechnic University of Madrid, I had the opportunity to collaborate with the Department of Structures on the writing and editing of the book Proyecto de Estructuras: la estructura en el proyecto arquitectónico. My main contributions were to the chapter on high-rise buildings, the overall development of the book’s graphic illustrations, and the potography of many of the buildings showcased.

Given my professional experience over the past years working on high-rise and mixed-use developments in the United States, I was able to bring practical insight into the design and construction of tall buildings—complementing the academic perspective with real-world applications and strategies.

The book is intended for 5th-year architecture students enrolled in the Structural Design Project course. It compiles updated proportion rules for lintelled structures under gravitational loads, strategies to address horizontal actions, and cost parameters for flexural systems. These principles are applied to conventional buildings, towers, and long-span roofs, with practical examples developed by students.

It was a rewarding experience to work at the intersection of technical rigor and visual clarity, helping communicate structural behavior in an accessible and educational way.
